“You don’t take a person who, for years, has been hobbled by chains, bring
him to the starting line in a race and say ‘ you are free to compete
with all others’, and still justly believe that you have been completely
fair.”
...   — Former US President Lyndon B Johnson in a famous 1965 speech that laid the foundations of affirmative action there

But, we do need some changes. Otherwise, it is benefiting only the same small group of people again and again. A friend of mine whose both parents are well educated and in high positions can still used the reservation thereby denying the benefit to the another needy person from the same group. We may probably need to limit the benefits after two generations. Otherwise, the real purpose of uplifting can not be achieved.

After 60 years of independence we don't need to have reservations based on community. Reservations based on economic status may be logical. But, if the government could provide good standard education with all the basic amenities to all the children in India , there is no need of reservations...

Nothing has change in 60 years. Neither did caste discrimination. When reservations are conceived to mend this gap and the gap still exists, how can you say its time to stop?

Economic status is not the reason for reservation in this country. Its social deprivation, discrimination and inhuman treatment. Do you think it has vanished from the map?

Economic status is not the reason for reservation in this country. Its social deprivation, discrimination and inhuman treatment. Do you think it has vanished from the map?

A person with 37% marks gets a Medical Collage seat for MBBS and study "well" and got a "permission" to treat people with 38% marks and got seat in MD in AIIMS and got license to "sugery" with 39% marks.
he got promoted to Dean of Hospital using same QUOTA.
He married to another doctor like him form same community and his son is studied very hard to get 40% marks to get seat in medicine.
Same Story Repeated 3 generations in last 60 years.

Basic Questions :
1. In a family how many can use Reservations?
2. How many generations can use same Quota ?
3. Why do we need Reservations in Jobs if we provide Education for those in Reservation Quota?
4. Why do we need Reservations in Promotions if we have reservations in Education & Jobs?

Govt should provide same standard basic education for all until 12th class and no reservations any place.

Have we developed fully is one question even to this age in the fields of science and technology? For the wards of Upper castes, the education has been a privilege and they grow up in an encouraging atmosphere of parents coaching their children too..But for an reserved candidate, the studying child is expected to double up a job. He is expected to teach his parent as well as teach himself. Mere provision of education is not enough, the training should be inclusive for these students...

Regarding what Pradeep has said, considering what the common experience says, there can be an amendment that the second generation of the reservation beneficiaries have higher cut-off marks rather than those getting the reservations for the first time.

I believe that the reservations are not really spreading wide and far and the truly deserving candidates never get that fruits and it is that creamy layer among the Reserved categories getting more and more chances to utilise this.

A politician like G Venkataswamy need not ask for reservation, but he would not think twice to utilise his quota and there are many others who do ditto..there should be a check on this kind of reservations...may be we need a revamp

Pradeep said...

If any person / group / caste / religion is demanding or supporting or for Reservations means that they are agreeing that they belonged to deprived group. Then never ever thought that you will become some thing equal in Social / Emotional that those are not used even after many generations. You should be pity on yourself for using these PRIVILEGES provided.

You will become equal in any aspect with those only by working hard using some basic values.

For example until early 20th African people are deprived / lived in worst conditions Worldwide. Today they got some respectable positions by utilizing some of the Educational Support only but not using Reservations in their every step of life. Education gives you what you want to get but Reservations will give you some kind of FREE LUNCH, where you never work hard to get your own lunch.
Anybody will gain respect by working hard but not by ...

As Long as these Political leaders are using the Caste / Religion Card as their trump card, this situation wont change. Not only politicians, even those who already enjoying these privileges for generations, if someone try to put restrictions will they agree? At least 10% will agree so that in their same COMMUNITY will be eligible for these privileges?

Mahesh, you can put a poll with in your family / friends / social circle those used these reservations are ready to deny for their next generation. If at least 10% agreed to that then you put a big banner PROUD DALITS.

Pradeep,
What about a person who got 40% and brought an MBBS seat? Are they good doctors in future since they didn't use reservations?

Pradeep said...

Abhishek ... you nailed it man

Pradeep said...

Sunanda,
The person who can afford 50 lakhs for Medicine Seat wont work for Brad and Butter.
And we are talking about 1% - 5% mgmt quota against 50% reservation quota. These reservations are not stopping at Education level, they get into Jobs with 40% passed out MBBS docs. The person who bought a MBBBS seat with 40% marks cannot get into jobs, he has to work on his own hospital / private hospital. Will he survive?? May be .. might not be .. then Skill comes into picture. But thh candidate who studied with 40% marks in Entrance and passed out with 40% marks will get a JOB and TREAT people.
